The Very Revd Colin Slee (Chairman)

Colin Slee was born in London in 1945 and educated at Ealing Grammar School and King's College, London.  He served for nearly two years with VSO in Papua New Guinea between school and university.

Ordained in 1970, he worked in Norwich, at the University Church and as chaplain in Cambridge (where he first met Desmond and Leah Tutu personally) and returned to King's College, London as Chaplain in 1976. Desmond Tutu had already been a student at King's College, London, which had a policy of assisting South African exiles at that time.

His active interest in assisting South Africa really became focused from that time. His secretary was South African, married to a student who had been released from Robben Island (and who is now the Archbishop of Cape Town); there were other students, some of whom are prominent in the new South Africa and remain in contact. The rest of his
professional information may be found in Who's Who or Debrett's People of Today.

From December 1994 he has been Dean (Provost) of Southwark.

Mr Malcolm Alexander

Malcolm Alexander is Managing Director of Interregna Limited, a leading provider of the best interim managers and directors to leading companies in the UK and Europe.

Malcolm, a qualified accountant, was himself a successful interim manager for ten years, whose assignments included the rescue of a major global logistics group, and the restructuring of companies going through major change.  Previously he was CFO of the Vestey Group (where he led successful negotiations for the restructuring of £400m of bank debt) and held senior management appointments with Diageo, Brooke Bond and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

After graduating from the University of London (Wye College) with a first class degree in agricultural economics, Malcolm worked in Uganda with Christian Aid for two years.  He then spent some three years as a development economist in Malawi and Tanzania.  Later, as Divisional Controller with Brooke Bond, he also travelled extensively throughout
East and Southern Africa.

Malcolm has been involved with the management of a number of charitable trusts, including St. Luke’s Community Trust in Kew, the Grant Charitable Trust (supporting rural development throughout Africa) and UWESO (Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans).

Malcolm’s friendship with Archbishop Tutu and his family goes back to 1962, when the Archbishop arrived in the UK to study at King’s College, London and was offered accommodation at St. Alban’s Church in Golders Green.

Malcolm has three children, Charles, Lucy and Tom.  His interests include most sports, hill walking, sailing and travel.
