Our Mission Statement
The Tutu Foundation UK continues the inspiring and transforming work of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
The foundation applies Archbishop Tutu’s work in mediation and conflict transformation to British communities in conflict. In doing so it offers a practical and proven solution to one of the most pressing needs in the UK today – reclaiming and transforming the lives of young people who are involved in violence, anti-social behaviour and gangs .
Applying the critical lessons learned by Archbishop Desmond Tutu through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, we believe that the voice of disaffected youth must be heard and that this is the first step in a process whereby youth leadership can be redirected and young lives can be reclaimed.
Behind the media stories which we see every day, the agencies with a duty of care in these communities, the police and to some extent the government have their backs against the wall - all are desperate for fresh ideas and thinking.
The Tutu foundation offers the fresh approach that is so desperately needed.
